I am deeply angered by the vandalism of the Tamil Genocide Monument in Brampton. This act targets a sacred site of memory and reflects a deliberate effort to silence Tamil truth and dignity.
The use of a racial slur makes clear that anti-Tamil and anti-Black racism are deeply connected, upheld by the same systems that divide and dehumanize our communities.
We cannot allow hate to define our public spaces. We must meet it with collective political will, education, and solidarity.
I stand with the Tamil community in Brampton and across Toronto and have reached out to the National Council of Canadian Tamils to offer my support.
