Protect and Preserve the Historic Character of Highland Creek Village

Highland Creek Village is one of Scarborough’s oldest and most historically significant communities. By the 1850s, it had become the largest residential and business centre in the former Township of Scarborough and was officially recognized as a community in 1852 with the establishment of its own post office. Situated along Kingston Road, Highland Creek grew into a vibrant hub of homes, businesses, schools, churches, hotels, and local services that helped shape the development of Scarborough.

Today, its historic streetscape, cultural landscape, and heritage buildings remain an important part of the community’s identity.

We, the undersigned, call on the City of Toronto to initiate a Heritage Conservation District Study for Highland Creek Village, evaluate the area for designation under Part V of the Ontario Heritage Act, and work with residents, businesses, Indigenous communities, historians, and community organizations to protect its significant heritage resources.

Preserving Highland Creek’s unique character will help celebrate its history, strengthen community identity, support local economic vitality, and ensure future development respects and enhances the legacy of this important Scarborough community.
