Make Transit Affordable for Toronto Seniors: Petition to Toronto City Council and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC)

Toronto’s seniors deserve affordable, accessible public transit. As the cost of housing, groceries, utilities, and healthcare continues to rise, many older adults on fixed incomes are forced to choose between paying for essential needs and staying connected to their communities.

Affordable TTC fares help seniors attend medical appointments, access community programs, volunteer, visit loved ones, and maintain their independence while reducing social isolation.

We, the undersigned, call on Toronto City Council and the TTC to make transit more affordable for all seniors aged 65 and older, ensure affordable fares are available at all times, protect existing affordability programs, and recognize public transit as an essential service that allows seniors to age with dignity. Cities like Mississauga have already shown that affordable senior transit is possible. It’s time for Toronto to do the same.
